Mining Wire Rope: Shovel & Dragline

Shovel, dragline, and bucket wheel excavator rope are TJ Steel Rope's mining-grade constructions, each specified separately by function given how differently a shovel's hoist rope loads compared to a dragline's drag rope or a bucket wheel excavator's continuous duty cycle. These constructions run to larger diameters than the standard catalog range and are aimed primarily at the North American and Australian markets, where surface mining activity is concentrated. Contact the sales team for diameter and construction options for a specific mining application.

Selecting rope for mining

Three machines, three different ropes

A shovel's hoist rope, a dragline's drag rope and a bucket wheel excavator's continuous duty each fail in a different way — shock loading, abrasion in spoil, or fatigue from constant cycling. We specify each separately rather than selling one rope for all three, in diameters beyond the standard catalog range.
