4-Strand Wire Rope
4-strand wire rope, including the 4V×39S and 4V×48S constructions, uses triangular strands to give a rounder cross-section and higher crush resistance than conventional round-strand rope — which suits drum-winding applications with heavy multi-layer spooling, while still resisting rotation under load. TJ Steel Rope manufactures this range from 10 mm to 40 mm at grades 1770 to 2160 N/mm², in bright or galvanized finish. See the Wire Rope Glossary for definitions of construction, core type, and lay direction terminology.
Selecting 4-strand rope
Triangular strands, flatter contact
The 4V profile uses triangular strands rather than round ones, so more steel sits on the rope's outer surface and pressure spreads across a wider contact area. That's what makes it hold up under heavy multi-layer winding, and why it resists knocks and dragging better than a conventional non-rotating rope.
